The establishment of the Supreme Council of Youth & Sports is considered the most important phase in the history of modern sports development in the Kingdom of Bahrain. His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman Al-Khalifa; Emir of the State of Bahrain then, issued Royal Decree number (2) for the year 1975 for the establishment of the SCYS under the presidency of His Highness Shaikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa; Crown Prince and commander-in-chief of the Bahrain Defence Forces.

Since its inception, the Council has borne the responsibility of defining general policies for youth and sports, with the objective of fostering harmony among youth-related activities and nurturing citizens equipped socially, physically, and intellectually.

Over the years, the founding decree has undergone several amendments, underscoring Bahrain’s steadfast commitment to empowering its youth and enhancing their societal role. Of significance is Legislative Decree No. (5) of 1983 amending the initial decree, as well as Legislative Decree No. (26) of 1999 issued by His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa, then Amir of the State of Bahrain, appointing His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defense Force, as Chairman of the Council to oversee the nation’s youth and sports affairs.

Additionally, Legislative Decree No. (33) of 2010 was promulgated, followed by Royal Decree No. (34) of 2010, under which His Highness Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa assumed the chairmanship of the Council—a role he continues to fulfill. The issuance of Decree-Law No. (42) of 2022 further refined provisions related to the Council’s powers and competencies.

Today, under the visionary leadership of His Highness Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports continues to advance national policies, supervise strategic initiatives, and collaborate with sports institutions throughout the Kingdom to build upon past achievements, attain new milestones, and elevate Bahrain’s stature on regional and international stages.

Bahrain 2030

Launched in October 2008 by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, this comprehensive economic vision for Bahrain sets a clear direction for the continued development of the Kingdom’s economy. It embodies a shared goal of building a better life for every citizen.
